Banana Ben’s Brand Identity

Banana Ben’s is a brand new indoor children’s soft play centre based in Wrexham. After a successfully completed previous project, we were commissioned again to design the full brand identity, signage and website for the new centre.

 
 

The brief

Banana Ben’s indoor play centre was launched to be, quite literally, a breath of fresh air for its customers. Incorporating a custom built play frame, superb air-conditioning and a large, bright seating area, the founders set out to make the experience as relaxing for parents and carers as it was exciting and fun for its younger visitors.

The founders partnered with Bourne and Bred while the centre was being built to help craft the look and feel of the brand identity. This ensured the theme was incorporated into every touchpoint of the centre and created a memorable experience for every visitor.

 
 

The solution

Banana Ben’s is named after the son of one of the founders, so the first step was to dream up a character who embodied Ben’s playful personality — it had to be a cheeky monkey. We then developed a range of other animal characters, all named after Ben’s school friends, who feature across the centre.

For the brand identity we opted for an abstract, pattern-like feel for jungle leaves and bold typography. We chose strong colours that children would love — all of which pop out beautifully on the chocolate-brown background.

Illustration was central to this project — the role-play street, for example, required a huge 16-metre illustrated jungle scene with custom designed huts nestling in the jungle canopy that children could walk into. Within each hut was a themed role-play room for children to explore and play dress-up.

The identity was rolled out across indoor and outdoor signage, the website, marketing materials and menus.
